Cricket legend Shahid Afridi has appealed to the Sindh Government to join hands with him in his drive called “Educate a Child”. The famous cricketer turned philanthropist made this appeal in a joint statement along with Zahid Saeed who is the CEO of his partner charity Green Crescent Trust (GCT)
The SAF has been running the eight charitable school in Karachi enrolling 2400 underserved students for over two years in collaboration with the GCT that in total runs 150-plus charitable schools in Sindh having enrolment of 29,000 children of the needy families.
“We have been working in the education sector for past six years while the GCT has 26 years’ experience of educating children of the backward areas. So we as an alliance have the combined experience of 32 years to educate children of neglected areas of Sindh.” said Shahid Afridi in the joint statement.
“Our alliance has the earnest desire to work with the Sindh government for this noble cause,” he said
“We have been imparting education to children of the neglected parts of Sindh for past 26 years but past six months have been seriously challenging for us due to the economic setback caused by the pandemic as survival of genuine charities like the GCT becomes a challenge,” said GCT CEO Zahid Saeed in the statement.
He hoped that concerned corporate sector and philanthropists would once again come forward to make sure that there would be continuity of education of 29,000 underprivileged students enrolled in the schools of his charity.
The global sports and charity star Shahid Afridi said that he was glad that the alliance of SAF and GCT had been working in the most neglected and backward parts of Karachi as more efforts should be made to educate children of such areas. “The more quality schools are built to educate children of the deprived areas the more talent we will have for the national development.”
“We have the will and resolve to adopt as many government-run schools as many we can to upgrade them including Ibrahim Ali Bhai School in Federal B Area from where I did my matriculation,” said Shahid Afridi.
He also appealed that the government and private schools should religiously follow the government-recommended Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) against the spread of coronavirus as any leniency in this regard will create irreversible damage to the health of students and teachers and also to the cause of education that already has been under massive stress for the past over six months due to Covid-19.
Afridi, who is the Chairman of SAF, said that if the schools didn’t follow the SOPs then there would always be risk that the government had to once more order closure of the educational institutions if they emerged as a source of the spread of the coronavirus in Pakistan. He said that strict observance of SOPs would also be necessary because any violation of the Covid-19 safety precautions would endanger the health of millions of students, their families, teachers, and other school staff. Also on the occasion, he appealed to the concerned donors, philanthropists, corporate sector and well-off persons to come forward and wholeheartedly support the joint charitable drive of SAF and GCT to educate children of the needy families in Sindh.
Zahid Saeed Said; “We have been sharing the burden of the state and the government as we strive hard to enroll out-of-school children in Sindh who are in millions so every resourceful person or organization, which wants progress and development of Pakistan, should support us with open heart.

اسٹار کرکٹر شاہد آفریدی نے اس عزم کا اظہار کیا ہے کہ وہ سندھ حکومت کے ساتھ مل کر صوبے کے پسماندہ علاقوں کے بچوں کو تعلیم یافتہ بنانے کے لیے کام کرنا چاہ رہے ہیں۔
یہ بات انہوں نے گرین کریسنٹ ٹرسٹ (جی سی ٹی) کے چیف ایگزیکٹو آفیسر زاہد سعید کے ساتھ ایک مشترکہ بیان میں کہی۔ کراچی میں شاہد آفریدی فاؤنڈیشن (ایس اے یف) فلاحی بنیادوں پر پسماندہ علاقوں میں جی سی ٹی کے اشتراک سے 8 سکولز پچھلے دو سال سے زائد عرصہ سے چلا رہی ہے جن میں غریب گھرانوں کے 2400 بچے زیر تعلیم ہیں۔ جی سی ٹی کے سندھ کے پسماندہ علاقوں میں 150 سے زائد فلاحی اسکولز ہیں جن میں محروم طبقات کے 29 ہزار طلبہ و طالبات زیر تعلیم ہیں۔
شاہد آفریدی کا جاری بیان میں کہنا تھا کہ ایس اے ایف اور جی سی ٹی کا سندھ میں تعلیم کو فروغ دینے کے لیے قائم الائنس اس اعلی تر مقصد کے لیے سندھ حکومت کے ساتھ شانہ بشانہ مل کر کام کرنا چاہتا ہے۔
ان کا کہنا تھا کہ کل ملا کر اس الائنس کے پاس تعلیم کے سیکٹر میں کام کرنے کا 32 سالہ تجربہ ہے جس میں سے چھ سال ایس اے ایف کے اور 26 سال جی سی ٹی کے ہیں۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ انہیں اس بات کی سب سے زیادہ خوشی ہے کہ کہ ایس اے ایف، جی سی ٹی کے ساتھ مل کر کراچی کے پسماندہ اور غریب ترین علاقوں میں تعلیم کے فروغ کے لیے کام کر رہا ہے۔
ان کا کہنا تھا کہ ایسے پسماندہ علاقوں میں تعلیم کو فروغ دینے سے ملک کی ترقی کے لیے وافر ٹیلنٹ میسر آئے گا۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ ان کا الائنس صوبے میں زیادہ سے زیادہ سرکاری اسکولوں کو گود لینا چاہ رہا ہے تاکہ ان کا معیار تعلیم بلند کر سکے۔
اس سلسلے میں ان کی خواہش ہے کہ فیڈرل بی ایریا، کراچی میں قائم ابراہیم علی بھائی گورنمنٹ اسکول کو بھی گود لیا جائے جہاں سے انہوں نے میٹرک پاس کیا ہے۔
اس موقع پر شاہد آفریدی نے ملک بھر میں قائم سرکاری اور نجی سکولوں کی انتظامیہ سے پر زور اپیل کی کہ حکومت کے فراہم کردہ ایس او پیز پر مکمل طور پر عمل درآمد کریں کیونکہ اس سلسلے میں کسی بھی قسم کی کوتاہی کے نتیجے میں سکولوں کو دوبارہ بند کرنا پڑ سکتا ہے جس کا ملک کسی بھی طور متحمل نہیں ہو سکتا.
انہوں نے کہا کہ حکومت کی فراہم کردہ صحت عامہ سے متعلق گائیڈ لائینز پر عمل درآمد نہ کرنے کی صورت میں سکول جانے والے ٹیچرز، بچوں، اور دوسرے سٹاف کی صحت کو خدانخواستہ ناقابل تلافی نقصان بھی پہنچ سکتا ہے۔
شاہد آفریدی کا اس موقع پر کہنا تھا کہ سکولوں کے لیے متعین کردہ ایس او پیز پر مکمل عمل درآمد ہونا چاہیے اور ایسا نہ ہو کہ دوسرے ملکی قوانین کی طرح جس میں ٹریفک رولز بھی شامل ہیں ہم بحیثیت قوم صحت عامہ سے متعلق ان گائیڈلائنز کی بلکل بھی پرواہ نہ کریی۔ اس سلسلے میں والدین کا بھی بہت اہم کردار ہوگا۔
جی سی ٹی کے چیف ایگزیکٹو آفیسر زاہد سعید نے جاری بیان میں سکول ایس او پیز کی اہمیت کو اجاگر کیا تاکہ اسکولوں کے بچوں اور اساتذہ کی صحت کو ہر ممکن طریقے سے محفوظ بنایا جا سکے۔
اس موقع پر شاہد آفریدی اور زاہد سعید نے مخیر حضرات اور اداروں سے پرزور اپیل کی کہ سندھ میں نادار گھرانوں کے بچوں میں خواندگی کے فروغ کے لئے دونوں فلاحی اداروں کی مشترکہ رفاعی مہم کا بھرپور ساتھ دیا جائے۔
ان کا کہنا تھا کہ کرونا وائرس ایمرجنسی کی صورت حال کی وجہ سے تعلیمی میدان سے منسلک ایسی فلاحی مہمات کو معیشت کے سکڑ جانے کی وجہ سے شدید مشکلات کا سامنا ہے۔
